Senior Teacher Alan Goode is recognised for his capacity to assist students and teachers of Yoga to deepen their own understandings of the connections between Patanjali's sutras, the Iyengars' words, and their own experience.
The following document is provided for teachers wishing to enrol in the Professional Development Program (also referred to as Ongoing Teacher Development)

What does Professional Development involve?
To attend the program, teachers enrol in a 10 week term and elect to attend the Institute for either 3 days, 4 days or 7 days in that term. During the 10 week term, teachers are able to access a number of extracts of reading material, audio files and video extracts relevant to the subject offered in that term. Teachers may also complete reading logs and assignments in preparation for the attendance week in Canberra.
The 3 day schedule (weekend):
Enrolment for a 3 day attendance period is always Friday to Sunday and the schedule includes:
- Pranayama practice session
- Asana led practice
- Workshop discussions with other teachers and trainees regarding teaching methodology
- Presentation by Alan Goode to students of Yoga Mandir
- Observing, participating or assisting within Yoga Mandir courses
The 4 day schedule (week day):
Enrolment for a 4 day attendance period is always Monday to Thursday and the schedule includes:
- Pranayama sessions (4 classes and several practices) plus 4 Yogasana classes focused on Intermediate Junior syllabus asana.
- Presentation and discussion with Alan Goode and other qualified teachers. Subjects for discussion change each term.
- Case studies and workshop sessions with Alan Goode and other qualified teachers. Subjects change each term.
- Observation and review of a Remedial Class
- Assisting, observing or participating within Yoga Mandir coursework classes taught by Alan Goode
- Practice of a BKSIYAA Assessment syllabus from the Intermediate Junior level
- Teaching under assessment conditions
The 7 day schedule
The 7 day attendance period is the 3 and 4 day schedules combined and includes a discount for attendance in both.
Important Dates for Professional Development
Yoga Mandir has four 10 week terms each year which are aligned with the Australian Capital Territory Education and Training Directorate terms.

The Professional Development enrolment is for a full 10 week term. During the term participants have access to a written material, audio and video files and are expected to complete reading and assignments in preparation for the 3-day, 4-day or 7-day attendance in Canberra.
Bookings open for all Yoga Mandir courses, including Professional Development, in Week 8 of the previous term.
The closing date for enrolment in the Professional Development Program is Friday of Week 2 of Yoga Mandir's term.

Online Study-Certified Teacher Program
Certified teachers with an established relationship with Yoga Mandir (ie teachers who have completed a Workshop, Professional Development session, or Retreat with Alan) are encouraged to consider the Online Study-Certified Teacher Program for the terms during which they are unable to attend Yoga Mandir in person. Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers from outside Australia can enrol in any term.
The Online Study-Certified Teacher Program is designed to provide teachers with access to the Iyengar family’s teaching in their own words, wherever possible.
The Online Study-Certified Teacher Program material is structured around subjects. For each subject, Alan has selected audio and video extracts from Iyengar yoga conventions. He has also produced and selected written material to stimulate certified teachers in their practice and teaching.
The Online Study-Certified Teacher Program is not to be seen as a replacement for ongoing face-to-face training and development with a senior teacher. However the Program is designed to support and enrich a teacher's own practice and study of yoga.
The material is designed to support the practice enquiries of teachers, while being firmly grounded in the Iyengar tradition.
Yoga Mandir has an online content management system. We offer excellent study material by enrolment and login from the Yoga Mandir website on a term by term basis.
